Area 1 Sinai

Sinai is divided to 4 major areas

Sharm El Sheik,Dahab,Nuweiba and Taba


Sharm El Sheik "Diver's Mecca"
,

1. Jackson Reef (28°00.450' N, 34°28.350 E)
Most northerly of the reefs of Tiran, superb wall diving along its entire perimeter, with sights of sharks, turtles and other big
fish.


2. Thomas Reef
Between Gardon and Wood house reefs, smaller round reef with walls plunging deep fully covered with soft coral,gorgonias and colorful fixed life.


3. Ras Nasrani (9km north of Naama Bay)
The south side of the cape is formed by big hard coral blocks on the shallows, after dropping to greater depths with caves and overhangs along the wall.


4. Far Garden (just north of Naama Bay)
The most seaward of the gardens, is therefore a more colorful fringing reef and more frequently visited by pelagic.Glass fish caves.


5. Pinky's Wall
Drift dive along the fringing reef, a slope from where richly covered coral heads emerge before becoming a shear bottomless wall.


6. Paradise
Northern side of Ras Umm Sidds wall, fully decora
ted coral heads rise from a gentle slope, housing schools of glassfish against a colorful background.

7. Ras Umm Sidd (27°50.950' N, 34°18.600' E)
The south side of the cape offers a superb gorgonian forest, before getting to the surface of the plateau bursting with life and with the possibility of spotting big fish at the corner.


8. Ras Za'atar
Most northern dive of Ras Mohammed National Park, it is the southern entrance to the bay of Marsa Bareika. Steep wall with caves and overhangs, becomes a gentler slope around the corner, scattered with colorful coral heads.


9. Shark Observatory (27°44.000' N, 34°16.000' E)
Southern end of Sinai Peninsula, the towering cliffs continue beneath the surface to fade into the deep blue. Smoothed wall with numerous gullies and canyons dessed with soft corals. Jacks and Turtles.


10. Shark & Jolanda Reefs (27°43.150' N, 34°15.590' E)

Mythic site in one of the most strategic spots in all of the Red Sea, the two small pinnacles are joined by a shear wall dropping to the deep blue covered in soft corals. Large schools of fish gather in often strong currents with large pelagic approaching to feed on them. Small remains of the 'Jolanda' wreck present with scattered cargo of heaped bath tubs and toilets.

 


Dahab "Deep Diving"

The Bells
The amazing dive starts through a crevice which opens to the open water , and surf to deep of 24 meter .At that depth its became into a cave which lead to the exit at depth of 30 meter.

The Blue Hole
Magnificence lagoon surrounded by coral wall, which starts on the surface,and end at depth of 70-meters .At depth of about 35 meter you can find an exit to the open sea.

The Canyon
One of the most popular dive site in the area. The site is located 5 kilometers north of Dahab. There is dive club on-site. The canyon goes down to depths of 50-60 meters. The entry is at depths of 15 meters, the first exit is at 30 meter and the second at deep of 55 meter.

Abu Hellal

Impressive coral reef reaches a depth of about 20-meters.

The Cave
Big cave between 5-20 meters, which splits for other two cells.

 


Nuweiba "Beautiful Sun"


1. Hilton House Reef
A dune ground with a slow slope till the depth of 30 meters.Suitable for beginners divers.

2. Ras Abu Galum
Amazing Diving site situated in a beautiful dune bay.The access to the site is by a 4 wheel car.

3. Devils head
Coral wall which ends at 25 meters . At this site you can find big groups of open water fishes

4. Oolie the Dolphin
A beautiful area where is a female dolphin in a small bay You pay $3 for snorkeling with the wild dolphin Oolie that hangs around there with the local Bedouin tribe.




Taba "Last frontier"

Taba's Canyon
The entry to the canyon is at 7 meters depth. At the site you can find big rocks
which are covered with soft corals. The canyon splits in
to other two small canyons which end at 30 meters depths.

The sun pool
Coral reef that ends at depth of 25 meters. Great site for a night dive.

Devils head
Coral wall which ends at 25 meters . At this site you can find big groups of open water fishes.

Area 2 Gubal Straits

Wreck World.

1. The Alternatives (27°43.84'N, 34°11.93'E)
A chain of flat topped reefs, also known as 'seven pinnacles'. Best dive around third and fourth where current sweeps through feeding pristine corals with bright vivid colors. 'Stingray Station' lies at the western extremity of the Alternatives,an irregular reef owes its name to the gathering of stingrays in March-April. Often sightings of a leopard shark.

2. Wreck of Dunraven (27°42.15'N, 34°07.30'E)
At the southern extreme of 'Shaab Mahmoud' lies the wreck of the 72m English steamer sunk in 1876 on its way to Bombay.The hull lies upside down and is totally covered in corals (max. depth 29m). Morays, groupers and schools of glass fish and
goat fish inside.

3. Small Passage (27°43.91'N, 34°05.86'E)
Small split in midway of Shaab Mahmouds barrier. The tide empties and fills the inner lagoon twice daily, thus creating strong currents that promote an impressive explosion of life. Brilliant soft corals and resident flashlight fish also make it a premier night dive location - weather permitting.

4. Wreck of SS Thistlegorm (27°49.90'N, 33°55.23'E)
Most famous wreck in the Red Sea. The 129m English freighter was bombed by German aviation in 1941, fully loaded with supplies and arms for troops in North Africa. Has created an artificial reef on a flat sandy bottom, home to a large variety of marine life and schooling fish - max. depth 31m.

5. Shag Rock (27°45.50'N, 33°53.30'E)
Large circular reef offering excellent diving on pristine coral reefs from any location on its perimeter. The sheltered southern point is the most dived location offering the opportunity for drifts along the west or east boundaries. Weather permitting the northern point hosts the wreck of the 'Sarah H.' just below the surface (max. depth 12m). Large schools of yellow goat fish, oriental sweetlips and regularly patrolled by palargics..

. Bluff Point (27°40.07'N, 33°48.32'E)
At the gate of the Straits of Gubal, 'Bluff Point' draws its name from the turbulence created by strong currents that beat the eastern most wall of the island. Huge fan corals cover an impressive drop off with caves and glass fish. Often sightings of turtles and napoleon fish. A unknown cargo boat lies on the reef 300m north of the lighthouse, starting at 5m depth and sloping to 25m.

7. Abu Nuhas

Also named the 'Ships Graveyard', houses several wrecks on a sandy seafloor at the bottom of a steep sloping coral reef layered with table corals:

Gianus D. (27°34.71'N, 33°55.41'E)

Greek freighter that hit the reef in 1983. Most dived wreck leaning to port with a fully intact stern section. Impressive engine room packed with glass fish. Be weary of numerous lion fish, scorpian fish
and strong surges in and around the the wreck in rough weather - max. depth 27m.


Carnatic (27°34.81'N,
33°55.63'E)
An old English steamer which sank in 1869. In stark contrast to the other more modern wrecks in design and fully encrusted in hard and soft corals - max. depth 27m.

Sea Star (27°34.92'N, 33°55.76'E)

Sank in 1976, fully laden with stone floor tiles. Early morning divers may find a white tip reef shark sleeping under the rudder at the stern. Be weary of very limited and small entry/exit points into
the engine room - max. depth 25m.


Chrisoula K (27°34.98'N, 33°55.88'E)

Struck the reef in 1981. Lying completely on its starboard side exposing its huge hull on one side and gaping cargo holds on the other. Large morays live in the scattered remains of wreckage on the starboard side and batfish circle the top side - max. depth 31m.

8. Yellowfish Reef (27°33.99'N, 33°56.01'E)
A group of three small reefs and outlying pinnacles on the insid
e of Abu Nuhas lagoon offering a superb landscape filled with schools of yellowfishes like goat, butterfly, banner and oriental sweetlips which give its name.

9. Shaab Umm Usk (27°34.99'N, 33°53.25'E)
A large horseshoe shaped reef shelters a shallow lagoon and offers good shallow diving on coral gardens at either point.Further around the southern reef exterior provides a steep coral encrusted wall sloping to 40+m. Playful bottlenose dolphins inside lagoon at times.

10. Blind Reef
An Isolated reef south of Siyul Island, with good diving on its north side. Soft coral, whip coral, glassfish bommies and turtles often found.

11. Siyul Kebira
The north eastern point offers a plateau which slopes gently from 10m to 30+m. Sharks and large rays often sighted in the deeper water, with schools of oriental sweetlips and masked butterflies in the shallows..

Area 3 Hurgada
Diver's Paradise.

1. Shaab El Erg
Large lagoon at Hurghadas northern most point, shallow dive on outer coral gardens and gathering point for manta rays in Spring. Renowned for sightings of resident dolphin community by divers.

2. Umm Gammar (27°21.155'N, 33°54.550'E)
Big groupers and lots of sweepers in the multiple caves found along the eastern wall and drop off of this tiny islands fringing reef.

3. Shaab Ruhr Umm Gammar (27°11.550'N, 33°54.550'E)
South of the Island, this reef offers superb wall diving with possibilities of encountering reef sharks and sized groupers.Small wreckage.

4.
Careless Reef (27°18.700'N, 33°56.200'E)
Two pinnacles rising from a shallow plateau surrounded by deep water. Magnificent coral gardens famous for the numerous giant morays encountered there, as well as the white tip reef sharks and schooling reef fish.

5. Small Giftun (27°11.030'N, 33°58.530'E)
Several good dives are found on the reefs around this island, the most famous the drift dive on the giant fan coral forest at the eastern fringing reefs wall. Napoleon fish.

6. Big Giftun
Best diving found on its eastern side, especially at 'stone beach' where morays and turtles are found on the hard coral garden found on the upper part of the wall.

7. Abu Ramada Island (27°09.784'N, 33°59.046'E)
Two little islands surrounded by a single reef. Good drift dive along the steep eastern wall, with big fan corals, overhangs and swim through. Big groupers and carangids.

8. Gota Abu Ramada (27°08.340'N, 33°57.196'E)
South of the island, a little reef features a shallow plateau also named the "Aquarium" because of the abundant schools of butterflies, banners and sn
appers here found swimming around the mountains of coral gardens.

9. Ras Disha
The fringing reef which surrounds this cape offers a good shallow dive on the hard coral garden found north of the lighthouse with schooling barracuda, napoleon fish and groupers. Garden eels.

10. Abu Hashish
Shallow labyryth on the south side of the island where lots of blue spotted stingrays, puffer fishes and morays are found swimming through a pinnacle landscape. Also drift dive along the eastern wall.

Area 4 Safaga

Diver's Paradise.

1. Ras Abu Soma
Reef lying in front of the shore sloping gently and offers numerous quality dive sites. Several caves with sweepers,schooling reef fish and occasional sightings of eagle rays.

2. Tobia Arba
Also named the 'seven pillars', rising from a sandy bottom and display a fascinating landscape of soft corals, glass fish, gorgonians. Giant puffer fish, bluespotted rays and octopus.

3. Tobia Kebira
Isolated reef emerges from a shallow sandy depth and offers interesting diving with schooling fish, morays and groupers.

4. Tobia Soghira
Stretching out from Tobia Island, run a chain of pinnacles with a sandy bottom in between. Stingrays, trigger fish and big shoals of bannerfish with gorgonians and acroporas in thee background.

5. Gamul Soghira
Very colorful dive with hovering sweetlip shoals, banner and butterfly fish. A small coral block which can be circumnavigated in some half an hour.


6. Panorama Reef
One of the highlights of the area. Huge coral formation with walls dropping to over 200m. Numerous grottos and overhangs, gorgonians and soft corals. Jacks, barracudas and reef sharks often visit the area.

7. Middle Reef
Northerly reef face slopes to 30m, then plumets vertically to much greater depths. Hard coral gardens on the east and west corners with acroporas, brain and salad coral. Fun dive on the south side through the shallow laberyth of caves, tunnels and passages. Groupers, puffers and sweetlips.

8. Abu Gafan
Possibly the best dive in Safaga, a 300m long and narrow barrier features a 'plateau' in both north and south extremes.Superb wall diving with soft and black coral, giant fan a
nd gorgeinias. Frequent sightings of jacks, barracuda and reef sharks.

9. Shaab Shear
A long barrier creates a shallow lagoon on its south side and hard coral gardens on both its east and west extremes.
Porites, acroporas and fire coral with schooling jacks, snapper and tuna fish.

10. Wreck of Salem Express
Ferry carrying pilgrims returning from Mecca, sank in 1992 after hitting the reef at night. 300 victims perished in one of the greatest marine tragedies of all time. Also, home of 'Colin' the Red Seas best known frog fish.

The South Area 5

The Future.

1. Elphinstone Reef
Mythic dive site of the south. Sheer walls plunge deep into the blue, richly decorated with soft corals, sponges, gorgonias
and fans. Pelargics often swim by the spot to feed on the abundant reef fish population. The northern plateau is home to
schooling hammerheads with frequent sightings of oceanic white tip sharks.

2. Shaab Marsa Alam
Large reef in front of the last southern civilian town on the Egyptian coastline. Corals gardens formed near huge coral
blocks 'porites' and shoals of banners, goat fish, snappers and jacks.

3. Shaab Samadai
A horseshoe shaped reef creates a shallow turquoise water lagoon where a large herd of spinner dolphins live permanently.Several dives are found on its outer walls. The western tip provides a large group of pinnacles rising to the surface from a carpet of seagrass, populated by schools of reef fish.

4. Daedalus Reef
A huge round reef with a lighthouse more than 40 miles away from the coast, features an excellent opportunity for spotting big pelargics all around its steep walls with an extreme variety of fish and coral. Strong currents possible.

5. Shaab Sharm
Big reef with big walls, hammerhead and grey reef sharks in summer, malabar grouper, barracudas, and schooling reef fish the rest of the year.
Currents, soft corals and giant fans.

6. Abu Galawa
On 'Fury Shoal' group, this reef has a good hard coral garden on the north side, and a wreck of an old tug boat fully covered with corals leaning on a pinnacle on the south side.

7. Shaab Mansour
Good dives on both north and south plateaus, with strong currents which favor the growth of all types of coral, including black, soft and fans. Sharks, napoleon and tuna fish.

8. Sataya
Also named 'Dolphin Reef', huge barrier reef that offers a sheltered inner lagoon and shear walls on the outside schooling hammerhead, large tu
na fish and jacks.

9. Zabargat
Enormous mountain coming out of the water surrounded by a lagoon and circling reef. A couple of wrecks and somedecent diving with a great variety of both corals and reef fish.

10. Rocky Island
Tiny rock emerging a few feet out of the water, it offers one of the most incredible underwater scenarios of the whole Red Sea. Steep walls falling into the deep blue, currents, soft corals and a great abundance of pelargics and all kinds of fish.
